A Message from the Board

Message from CMI Board

Dear CMI members and friends,

I hope this finds you and your family in good health. Throughout the world, society is taking unprecedented measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The CMI Board met virtually this weekend to discuss impacts to CMI programs, members, volunteers, employees, and the community we serve.

CMI is much more than rowing on the water. We are a dedicated community of youth and adults who share a unique sense of camaraderie, friendship and purpose.  As we temporarily adapt our lives to social distancing, CMI’s goal is to foster the intrinsic benefits and sense of belonging that maintain our much-appreciated sense of community and comfort.

  • Immediate changes already implemented:
    • Rowing Programs.
      • The spring youth rowing program is on hold.
      • Indoor rowing at the Cohasset Recreation Center and CMI Boathouse is also on hold.
A separate email will go out to CMI members already registered for the spring programs with additional details about an alternative, using a virtual coaching by CMI coaches.

  • Erg loans are considered, first for youth rowers in the spring program. We will  then accelerate plans to sell six early-model, refurbished Concept 2 ergs. Please watch for an email shortly with details.

  • Additional information to be distributed by mid-April:
    • Rowing programs: the board is actively monitoring state, town and US Rowing guidelines to identify alternatives and potential updates to our indoor, spring and summer rowing programs.  As more information develops, we will make appropriate decisions to keep our community safe and (hopefully) active.
    • Community service:  Many of our 200 adult and youth members are looking for ways to help others during this crisis. We believe we can help facilitate the discussion and establish local connections that can help the community. We are at the idea gathering phase and welcome suggestions.

CMI’s board and members and friends are a unique collection of people that can offer real ideas and solutions to challenges we are currently facing. As we all know, once a crew catches together, the boat runs smoother and faster. Let’s get our thoughts together and make a real impact.

Stay safe!
